Dear Martin follows an intelligent Yale bound African American student named Justyce McAllister. However, none of this matters when Justyce is arrested for no apparent reason, while trying to help his girlfriend safely get home from a party.
In response, Justyce turns to the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to help guide him through his troubles. He ultimately begins writing journal entries to Dr. King looking for guidance that continue throughout the duration of the novel.
Justyce encounters more turmoil with another police officer while driving with his best friend Manny. Words fly between the two groups and shots are fired. Justyce and Manny are forever changed.
This is truly an action filled, powerful, and deeply moving story that many would enjoy. It deals with topics such as racism, growing up, bullying, friendship, and relationship issues. It is definitely "a must read' as Angie Thomas put it.
